Our KB Athletics Story
Here’s my story including …KB Athletics Inc and my son Antonio Killebrew Jr. (KB).
Thank you for this opportunity to share my testimony and journey to KB Athletics.
I miss my son…Antonio Killebrew Jr. (KB) he told stories, made jokes (some were funny, some were corny) but people laughed. He had a smile that would brighten any room. His warm presence gave a fun, energetic vibe to whomever he was around. Antonio was an exuberant man. He is known for his athleticism, high energy and being family oriented. To him if y’all were friends, yall were family.
I’m saddened his life was shortened to only 23 years. He had so much more life to live. In my grief I found solace in knowing that he was a man that others respected and looked up to. When I look out at the field at his former teammates playing football and hearing them yell..”this for you KB!” It fills my heart with gratitude. The love they have for my son is truly amazing.
July of 2019 forever changed my life. I felt my world had come crashing down and everything that I knew had come to a complete stop. I experienced a great loss, a loss that no mother should ever have to endure. Sadly, my son Antonio Killebrew “KB” was taken from me.
Knowing the impact Antonio had on his peers it motivated me to start my non profit organization, KB Athletics. Antonio may not be here in the physical but his legacy will forever live on. Taking time to reflect over my son “KB” life I remembered his drive and passion for sports. With that, my passion for youth was enlightened even more. This was when I knew I needed to create a program that would enable youth from our communities to be able to be a kid. Meaning allowing them to have fun, play outside freely without fear or the possibility of violence surrounding them. I wanted to create a program that was accessible to them and impactful. A program that provides support, encouragement, and resources to help them and their families.
On November 30th, 2019 I launched KB Athletics Inc. with a community 7 on 7 flag football tournament. With this event we hit the ground running and haven’t stopped since. The outcome of this event was amazing. We were able to donate to a family in need, bring other community leaders together, proved a fun and safe space for children for a fun filled day of activities and mentoring. My mantra is and will always be “Take Action. Make a difference.”
I would like to leave you with this…imagine after losing your child and feeling buried under a mounting of dirt and you begin feeling like you’re suffocating in darkness. Then you hear Gods voice whisper to you in your time of depression that you are not buried… you’re planted, and with that small mustard seed of faith is all you need to begin your healing. And from that a beautiful rose garden has blossomed. KB ATHLETICS is my garden and I will continue to grow and nurture it in the remembrance of my beloved son Antonio KB Killibrew.
TAKE ACTION. MAKE A DIFFERENCE
